DIY Foaming Hand soap!

Are you tired of running to the store and buying hand soap? Do you know how many ingredients make up the store bought products? I have a solution for a safer alternative! Minimal ingredients and ones you understand! Let me tell you about how I started making my on DIY foaming hand soap.

I was tired of my hands drying out so much! I mean we wash our hands every day, multiple times a day! What we put on our hands is also absorbed into our bodies. The alcohols that are in most products dry out my skin. The fragrances were causing me and my family headaches and sinus issues. What we were using wasn’t working for us anymore. I set out on a journey to find a safer alternative and looked for DIY foaming hand soap recipes.

Research Time on DIY hand soap

First I needed to find a clean DIY foaming hand soap recipe. This started with me going to google and repeatedly searching “clean soap”, “clean this” or “organic that”. I also when to Pinterest and searched DIY foaming hand soap. I probably typed some of the same things you’ve done to end up here! The product I kept coming to that just felt right was Dr. Bronner’s. We have used their hand soap before but I wanted to take it further and make my own with specific scents.

I knew I wanted to incorporate essential oils because we use those daily in my home. (That will be a whole other post! I could talk about oils and their benefits & uses everyday! But for now, let me get back on track.) Most people have heard of essentials. The brands options range from store bought to direct to the manufacturer. I personally researched and found Plant Therapy as my preferred oil brand. They aren’t MLM, so I didn’t feel pressured when buying or talking about them. They also have a ton of information on their site about each oil and they even have a pet friendly section. As a mom with two fur babies, I wanted to make sure the oils I used were safe for them too!

I chose the unscented Dr. Bronner’s, from there it was to pick and essential oil scent. First place we replaced the soap was in the kitchen. So I chose the lemongrass essential oil from Plant Therapy. Now I needed a foaming hand soap dispenser. I found a glass foaming hand soap dispenser from Target. I wanted use glass to cut down on plastic usage.

Below is a link to the Plant Therapy lemongrass essential oil. I’m not an affiliate, but I want to send you direct to where I purchase my oils from!

Alright, this is it! Recipe time!

I use 4 tablespoons of unscented Dr. Bronner’s soap, 8-10 drops of essential oil, and then fill the rest of the dispenser with water. Once filled, give it a good shake to mix the ingredients and you’re done! You have officially made a safe hand soap for you and your family! Let me know if you try this DIY foaming hand soap and what you think!
