Who doesn’t love a good homemade biscuit? Especially a butter swim biscuit!
I’m from the South, homemade biscuits are a staple. Most people love to make a gravy and smother the biscuits in them, but me, I love a good buttered biscuit drizzled with jelly or honey. My mouth is watering as I type this. I made these butter swim biscuits for breakfast this very morning. Let’s just say I’ve made these every weekend since I found this recipe. It’s super easy! You can’t mess this up!
Once you’ve tried these, you probably won’t want to go back to store bought biscuits. Move over Grands! There is a new biscuit in town and it’s smothered in buttery goodness! Most of the ingredients for butter swim biscuits are ones you probably already have at home, with the exception of buttermilk.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 stick of butter
- 4 tsp of baking powder
- 4 tsp of sugar
- 2 tsp of salt
Steps
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
2. Combine the dry ingredients in a medium size bowl.
3. Add buttermilk to dry ingredients and mix together until a soft dough is formed.
4. Melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl, and then pour it into an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish. *(Make sure that your pan is not too shallow so that the butter doesn’t drip out of the pan while it’s baking).
5. Place the dough right on top of the melted butter and use a spatula to spread it evenly across the pan until it touches the sides. Cut the unbaked, butter-covered dough into 9 squares. (this doesn’t need to be perfect)
6. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown on top! The butter will still be sizzling on the sides when you take out of the oven. Just let this rest for a few minutes before you cut.
